A Brief History of the Newmanstown Church

The Newmanstown United Christian Church was first listed as a preaching appointment in the Annual Conference minutes of 1914.  Prior to that members of the community met for prayer meetings in their homes.  Through those meetings, they discovered that they had common faith, and they sought a house of worship.  United Christian Ministers were called upon to fill the pulpit in this new church.  Up to this time the closest UC appointment was the Blue Meetinghouse on the edge of what is now Middle Creek Wildlife Area just off 897 between Cocalico and Kleinfeltersville.  Earlier contacts with United Christians may have been through evangelistic efforts of Cleona Campmeeting or the Blue Church.  The old rented church was purchased in 1941.

The Newmanstown Church was known for its evangelistic meetings.  Ministers often spent a week in Newmanstown for revival services.  Sometimes these evangelistic meetings lasted for many weeks.  It has been said that folks walked from as far as Kleinfeltersville to the old church on South Sheridan Road to take part in the revivals.  Some recall that the old church, which wasnt very large, often got so full that people were standing outside looking in to hear the message.

in 1952 the current church edifice was built on the corner of South Sheridan Road and Memorial Boulevard.  The church building provides plenty of space for the various ministries we have been blessed by God to provide and shepherd, and a comfortable auditorium in which to worship our Savior.
