How to Grow

First, a new birth must take place :

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins (Colossians 2:13)

What's wrong with the old me and how does a new birth take place?

  • For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

  • But God demonstrates his own love for us in this, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

  • For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).

  • If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

  • For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son (John 3:16-18).

Once you are born again then, like any newborn, you need to grow. You do this by:

  • Reading the Word of God (the Bible) - I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psalm 119:11).

  • Meeting with other believers in Jesus - And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching (Hebrews 10:24-25).
